What Can a Horse Teach You About Your Leadership Presence?
Many years ago, I was first introduced to equine leadership development through Lissa Pohl in Kentucky.
I was struck by how powerful the experience was.
A horse responds to you immediately. There’s very little ambiguity. You can feel, in your body, what happens when you become tentative, controlling, anxious or disconnected — and what changes when you become more grounded, clear and intentional.
That makes horses remarkable partners for exploring leadership presence.
Over the years, I partnered several times with Lissa to bring equine leadership programs here to Boulder and to incorporate my own Alignment work into the experience.
I found it remarkably effective at creating a somatic learning experience that stayed with leaders long after they left the arena.
That’s what has always fascinated me about this work. You’re not just thinking about how you lead. You’re experiencing how your presence affects another being — and you can experiment with shifting it in the moment.
Most recently, I discovered that Kevin Colon is offering similar programs here at Sage Heart Ranch in Boulder, Colorado, and I was excited to partner with him to create an experience for our Colorado Leadership Circle Community of Practice — and to open it more broadly to the friends, family and colleagues of our coaches.
If you’re curious about how your leadership presence is actually experienced — not just how you think you’re showing up — this is a fascinating way to find out.
Leadership Presence: An Equine Transformational Experience
Friday, October 9 | 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Sage Heart Ranch, Boulder, Colorado Cost: $200
No horse experience is necessary, and there is no riding involved.
We’ll use the horses as real-time feedback partners to explore:
• How you respond when things don’t go as expected • What Reactive patterns emerge • How your presence affects the relationship • What shifts when you move toward a more grounded, intentional and Creative stance
The experience is highly experiential and somatic. You don’t just think about your leadership — you feel it, experiment with it, and see the impact immediately.
Pack a lunch and stay afterward for an informal picnic together on the ranch.
Space is limited, so register early.
